About Miles Herbert

Miles Herbert is a working professional photographer selling images all over the world as well as running Captivelight Photography Workshops based in Ringwood on the edge of the beautiful New Forest National Park.

“I got bitten by the photography bug at the tender age of 7 when my father (who once worked for Kodak) gave me a Kodak Brownie 127 III for my birthday and a couple of rolls of film which started a lifelong passion and fascination with photography. By the age of 12 I was using a Pentax K1000 SLR (I still have it!)  and went through a string of Pentax cameras before switching to a Nikon FE, Nikon F80 and ultimately a Nikon F100 as a freelance photographer.

I made the crossover to digital in 2004 with a pair of Nikon 70D’s and never looked back, although I did make the switch to Canon equipment shortly after. Over the years my images have appeared, and continue to be used,  all over the world including the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, Japan and Asia. My photos have been used in many magazine publications, books, newspapers, as well as advertising, educational material, greetings cards, postcards and more recently digital uses including information touchscreens and of course on internet websites.

The industry has changed a lot over the years where digital technology has enabled anyone to be a photographer, so in 2004 we formed CaptiveLight Photography Workshops to give people an opportunity to photograph some things that they might not have easy access to otherwise. A partnership with Liberty’s Owl Raptor And Reptile Centre in Ringwood saw us offering Birds Of Prey to photograph followed by Reptiles, Amphibians and later Harvest Mice as well as more studio based subjects.

Over time we have become more independent with Captivelight awarded our own Animal Activities License for supplying animals for film and photography and the business has continued to grow steadily. As time has passed we continue to work closely with some of the biggest names in the business.

I am lucky enough to earn a decent living from my cameras over the years and am only too happy to pass on some of my knowledge and experience to people who are just starting their own journey into photography through CaptiveLight where we have helped many well known photographers through their first steps on their way.

I hope you enjoy looking at some of my images”.
